Organization Mission and History |
Since 1966 the Salesian Boys and Girls Club on Wabash Avenue has been a home to the young people of Boyle Heights and City Terrace on Los Angeles' Latino Eastside. The Salesian Family Youth Center opened in 1994. The Club has been a member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America since 1966 and offers all core Boys and Girls Club programs. Youth are welcomed without regard to race, gender, creed or physical handicap. Boyle Heights, a largely immigrant area on the City of Los Angeles' Eastside, is in a distressed area. The centers serve over 2400 registered members, ages 6 to 18. Membership is $5.00 per year. Our mission statement is:
To inspire and enable the young people of East Los Angeles and the surrounding communities to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens, and to support their families in this effort.
- In 1920’s and 30’s the club was the Menorah Center a community center for youth in the area.
- In 1961 Cardnal McIntyre gave the club to the Salesian of Don Bosco to help the youth in the community.
- Since 1966 the Salesian Boys Club on Wabash Avenue has been a home to the young people of Boyle Heights and City Terrace on Los Angeles’ Latino Eastside. Activities included Boxing, games, basketball and other sports. In the mid 80’s the club became the Salesian Boys & Girls Clubs when girl were allowed to become members.
- Our goal has always been to serve the youth a little or no cost, fundraising is the key to our success.

- education, leadership, Sports, Technology, cultural Awareness
- Partnership with Dodgers, Lakers, Disney and other corporations assist with programs, but the most supportive group are individuals like you.
