The Salesian Club’s Community mission for an everyday Thanksgiving has begun!! The Club’s Thanksgiving Celebration was a truly successful event that has been a custom for the Club for the past fifty years. It is a time to share with the Community in the true Salesian spirit of thanking God for His continual blessings.
The Club has taken the Thanksgiving spirit and applied it to a daily gift to the children of East Los Angeles through the dedication of Executive Director Br. Tom Mass, the two Unit Directors, Hector Payan and Maria Moreno, and our Roosevelt High School location team, Tam Nguyen and Abel Canel. It is not just enough to celebrate the spirit of giving only on Thanksgiving, but to provide our kids with the opportunity of knowing that they will have a hot dinner every day.
The first step in this community dinner event started at the Wabash location with thirty-five kids. Within a couple of weeks, the program expanded to all the Club locations and now serves over 200 meals a day. The program is projected to serve over 50,000 meals this year! It’s all about commitment and understanding the daily needs of the kids.
It is the spirit of Don Bosco and the total commitment of the Club staff that not only has made this happen, grow and expand, but to understand that success for a child means not only a safe healthy environment, but knowing that they will have hot food on a daily basis. A child (or anyone else, for that matter) cannot be successful if they are worried about having a daily meal. The Club staff gets it and made it happen.
