Hip-Hop Basketball Tourney Benefits the Community

Full story follows...

The staff at the Salesian Club’s Wabash site hosted its first “Spin and Pass the Mic” hip-hop show during Saturday’s “Turkey Time” 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The event was designed to create a positive environment for local youth while collecting donations for the community.

Unit Director Maria Moreno worked with her staff, Hip-Hop artist Mescalito and videographer Eric, to organize both the tournament and music. This was the first of a series of planned concerts/tournaments that will be held at the Club.

Eight teams of three spent the afternoon playing basketball for first, second, and third place trophies. The teams consisted of local young adults who enjoy playing competitive basketball but, due to the lack of basketball courts in the community, must often play in the streets.

The Hip-Hop performers belong to a local group of rising music artists who sing at their community events, similar to the Doo-Wop groups of the 60s and 70s. The kids are talented, spirited, and enjoy their creative arts.

Club staff is committed to spreading Don Bosco’s message of helping others. The funds and cans collected from this event will be used to help local families for Thanksgiving.

Be Great. Be Salesian.
