March was filled with creativity, teamwork, service, and sportsmanship at the Salesian Family Youth Center! Check out some of the amazing things our youth and volunteers were up to this month
We Care Program - St. Patrick’s Day: Catching Leprechauns with Imagination

Our kids got festive and crafty this St. Patrick’s Day by designing their very own leprechaun traps! Using everyday materials and lots of imagination, they came up with some clever contraptions to (hopefully!) catch a little bit of luck. It was a fun and creative way to celebrate the holiday while sparking their problem-solving skills.
We Care Program - Park Day Fun in the Sun

With spring in full bloom, we took advantage of the sunshine with a joyful Park Day! The kids enjoyed playing baseball, racing around, and climbing the jungle gym. It was the perfect way to stay active, laugh with friends, and soak in the fresh air. A great way to end the week and look ahead to a summer full of adventure!
We Care Program - St. Mary’s Volunteer Day: Giving Back with Heart
We were thrilled to welcome 26 students from St. Mary’s Academy for a special volunteer day at the Center. These incredible young women rolled up their sleeves and helped us with some deep cleaning and organizing—tackling projects that had been waiting for attention. Beyond lending a hand, the visit was a chance for them to learn more about our mission and the youth we serve. Thank you, St. Mary’s, for showing what community support looks like!
We Care Program - Mamba League Clinic: Training with the Best

Our boys and girls basketball teams had an unforgettable experience at the Mamba League Clinic, proudly sponsored by Nike. They worked on their fundamentals, learned new drills, and even went home with some awesome Mamba League gear.
Huge thanks to our friends at WSGV for their ongoing partnership and for giving our athletes this amazing opportunity to grow on and off the court.
SHOUT Bravo - Learning Together, Growing Together

At our SHOUT After-School Program, we’re here to make homework less stressful and learning more fun! In the first photo, you’ll spot our dedicated team helping students tackle their assignments—whether it’s solving tricky math problems, writing essays, or answering those head-scratching questions.

In this photo, you’ll see something just as powerful: students tutoring one another. We love seeing them collaborate, share knowledge, and grow together. It’s not just about getting the answers—it’s about building confidence, friendships, and a strong foundation for success.
SHOUT Bravo - Dancing Around the World with Bravo!

Our SHOUT team is proud to support Bravo’s Dance of the World program, where students explore dances from across the globe! In this photo, you’ll see our staff guiding students step by step, whether it’s the rhythm of a lively Latin number or the elegance of a traditional cultural routine.
It’s more than just learning choreography. It’s about celebrating diversity, building confidence, and having a blast while doing it. We love seeing the students light up as they move, connect, and grow with every step!
SHOUT Bravo - Colorful Creations at Afternoon Art Club

Our Afternoon Art Club was bursting with creativity as students let their imaginations shine on canvas! In this photo, you’ll see young artists painting vibrant designs inspired by their favorite colors and personal styles.
Each piece is a unique reflection of their personality—bold, bright, and full of heart. It’s inspiring to watch how different shades and ideas come together to create something beautiful. From experimenting with color blends to expressing big ideas through brushstrokes, the energy in the room was pure joy!
SHOUT Roosevelt - Clay Creations with the Art/Horror Club

Art is all about getting a little messy and letting creativity shine! Our Art/Horror Club had a blast sculpting with air-dry clay—each student given the same tools, but endless freedom to create.
Some even brought characters to life just by looking at pictures! It’s amazing to see their imagination and talent come to life in 3D.
SHOUT Roosevelt - Trying Something New: Golf with PlayLA
Golf might not be the go-to sport in our community—where soccer and football reign—but it sure turned out to be a hit! Thanks to a partnership with PlayLA, our SHOUT students had the chance to attend a fun and interactive golf clinic.
They learned the basics, got hands-on practice, and even walked away with free shirts and hats—definitely a highlight! More than just learning a new sport, this experience helped build confidence, teamwork, and a strong sense of community.
SHOUT Roosevelt - Staying Safe Online: A Powerful Presentation for Teens

Our students recently took part in an eye-opening presentation about the dangers young adults face on the internet. The session covered serious topics like sex trafficking, grooming, and the risks of sharing personal information with strangers online.
Real-life stories from victims made the message hit home, and students were also challenged with real-world scenarios to test their awareness and decision-making. Presentations like this are crucial in helping our youth stay informed, alert, and empowered to protect themselves in today’s digital world.
SHOUT Roosevelt - Robotics & Math Champs: A Week of Hard Work and Big Wins

Our robotics students took on their first-ever 3-day competition, going up against 45 schools—and proudly placed 28th! For many, it was their very first time competing, but they tackled every coding glitch and mechanical challenge with determination and teamwork.
All hands were on deck throughout the event, and their effort showed. While we’re proud of their performance this year, the team is already looking ahead—ready to come back even stronger!
To top it all off, some of our students also competed in a Math Field Day… and took home first place! Congratulations to our future engineers and mathematicians—you make us proud!
Youth Ministry - Confirmation Year 2 Retreat Kickoff

The Confirmation Year 2 retreat at Salesian High School Bishop Mora officially kicked off, bringing together young people from Santa María, Santa Isabel, and Salesian High.
Many participants, who also serve as Camp Salesian counselors, came together for a powerful and faith-filled start to this important journey.
This retreat marks the beginning of a significant step in their spiritual growth.
Youth Ministry - Youth Volunteers Serve in Skid Row

Nearly 30 young volunteers from St. Mary’s Parish, the Salesian Family Youth Center, and Salesian High School Bishop Mora came together this Sunday to prepare and distribute nearly 400 sandwiches in Skid Row.
Their compassion and teamwork highlighted the power of presence, simplicity, and love in service. The Salesian mission continues—empowering the young to be agents of change.
Youth Ministry - Fundraising for Youth Leadership Conference in Watsonville

The Youth Ministry of St. Mary’s Salesian Parish and the Salesian Family Youth Center recently held a fundraiser to raise funds for sending young people to the Salesian Youth Leadership Conference (SYLC) in Watsonville.
The fundraiser featured tamales, hot chocolate, coffee, sweet bread, handmade earrings, and bracelets, with proceeds going toward the conference.
The event ran from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and the community’s support has brought them close to reaching their fundraising goal.
Youth Ministry - A Memorable Experience for Young Leaders

A generous donor donated to The Salesian Family Youth Center 4 tickets to the Mexico vs. Canada match at Sofi Stadium.
Two youth from St. Mary’s Parish and two from St. Isabel Parish, all future leaders of the 2025 Salesian Youth Leadership Conference and participants in this year’s Stations of the Cross, had the chance to experience their first-ever stadium visit at the iconic Sofi Stadium.
At the Salesian Family Youth Center, we’re committed to providing young people with opportunities that help them grow as individuals and future professionals.
Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Let’s continue to open doors for our youth.
