"Spooktacular Fun & Fall Adventures at the Salesian Family Youth Center!"

The month of October was busy for our center! We have had some awesome activities for our students to attend like arts and crafts, sports programs, mental health activities, and collaborations with other parishes. But most importantly, all our members had lots of fun this spooky month.

Inaugural Youth Soccer League Season ends!

Our inaugural youth soccer league, sponsored by LA84 Foundation, has finished their first season! We had a total of 6 teams (72 participants) make up our first season. We are excited to begin our next season in January! Thank you to LA84 for making these experience happen for our participants.

Collaboration between parishes to better our programs!

Last week, the core group of young animators from Boyle Heights visited the youth group at St. Dominic Savio Parish on Tuesday and Thursday. The exchange allowed them to share experiences, build friendships, and learn new ways of leading a youth ministry guided by young people themselves. The visit reflected the Salesian spirit of collaboration and growth among communities. The group also had the opportunity to visit Father Joe Farías at his residence located at St. John Bosco High School, strengthening the bonds of friendship and faith that unite our Salesian family.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 👻 🎃 From the We Care Program!

The celebration for the kids here at the center was special, it was full of fun activities, good food, and a lot of candy!! They went trick or treat throughout the club in different rooms, we had a costume parade, and you can't forget the evil witch piñatas.

Monni, a Roosevelt Leader, Facilitating a Mental Health Workshop

ree

During our most recent Salesian Youth Group gathering, our young leader Monni led a meaningful Mental Health workshop focused on creating safe spaces and building community. Through reflection activities, the youth expressed what “support” means to them — drawing family members, teachers, pets, soccer balls, and even “ChatGPT.”

We Care After School Program October Activities

The We Care Program did a variety of activities with the kids this month! They created air cars by using drinking straws, the caps of water bottles, and balloons to make their cars. The kids used household materials to make their very own Lava lamps. Lastly, instead of caramel apples the kids got to enjoy some chocolate covered apples with toppings of their choice. Nice little sweet to end the day for the kids.

Bravo Art Club October Activity

ree

Our Bravo Art Club’s stamp-making session was all about focus, creativity, and hands-on expression. Members explored the process of sketching and carving their own reusable designs, transforming simple ideas into personalized art. Michael impressed everyone with his detailed Pokéball stamp, which came out remarkably crisp for his first try! As a group, we also discovered that using thicker paint creates bolder, more vibrant prints. It's a helpful tip for future projects. It was inspiring to see everyone so engaged and excited to bring their designs to life!

Bravo Leadership making a difference in their community!

ree

Starting the month with purpose and our Bravo Leader Knights in action! We kicked off the school year with our annual elections, where students proudly stepped up to represent our Bravo Knights and lead with heart. Our newly elected cabinet is already taking initiative by organizing a Homeless Outreach Event to support children and families in Skid Row. Through teamwork and compassion, our leaders have begun gathering donations which include hygiene products, clothing, and school supplies to make a meaningful impact. This project reminds us that leadership is not only about guiding others but also about showing empathy and creating positive change in our community.

Closing Thoughts - Being Thankful

ree

With the Thanksgiving Holiday coming up we are so grateful for all the families we get to spend time with every day! We are hosting our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 20th at 6pm. We will be serving our families and having our members perform. This dinner usually serves about 150-200 people and all our programs come together. If you would like to attend or support our event email cmendoza@salesianclubs-la.org. Happy Thanksgiving from the Salesian Family Youth Center! May you be surrounded with your families and lots of joy this season.
