2025 Youth of the YEAR
Janaeh has been part of our program since kindergarten. She attends El Rio Community School, and for her project, she wants to visit homeless children and spend time playing with them.
Chris has been part of our afterschool program for two years now. He attends Santa Isabel School, and his dream is to go to Salesian High School. For his project, he wants to create a Salesian banner showcasing our programs, which will be displayed in our arts and crafts area.
Hannah has been part of our Roosevelt High School SHOUT Program, and she is also a leader in our Drill Team. Her project focuses on cleaning beaches and helping protect marine animals, including seals.
Our Youth of the Year are exemplary stewards in our community, no matter their age. They serve as role models for many of us.
Finding Inspiration in the Life of Blessed Carlo Acutis

We had the opportunity to visit Holy Family Parish in Pasadena, where the relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis is venerated. Carlo’s life serves as a powerful reminder that holiness is accessible to all through a deep commitment to service. This visit was an inspiring experience for our young people, offering them a contemporary example of faith, leadership, and dedication to others.
Celebrating Unity and Tradition: Chinese New Year in Chinatown

Young people from our community gathered at St. Bridget Parish to celebrate the Chinese New Year, followed by festivities at the Mary Help of Christians Youth Center in Chinatown. The celebration included vibrant Lunar New Year traditions such as food, music, and joyful moments of cultural exchange. This experience highlighted the strength of unity and the beauty of embracing diverse cultures and traditions. May this new year bring blessings, prosperity, and joy to all!

Bravo High students made a significant impact by sending much-needed items, truly embodying Don Bosco's legacy of love and service. Thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration meaningful!
Empowering Young Salesian Leaders for a Stronger Future

Yesterday, past and future participants of the Salesian Youth Leadership Conferences gathered at St. Isabel Parish to connect and prepare for the 2025 conference. This moment of growth and community building sets the stage for the June event, where young leaders from across the Western U.S. will unite for formation. The Salesian Family Youth Center is recruiting young leaders eager to serve and make a difference in Boyle Heights. Let’s continue empowering the next generation and strengthening the Salesian mission together!

The Bravo Folklorico students are diligently preparing for their annual May show at Bravo High School, focusing on traditional Mexican dances from regions such as Chihuahua and Sinaloa. The Chihuahua Polkas feature rapid footwork and partner movements, while the Sinaloa dances are known for their large skirt movements, hip leans, and shoulder shimmies. The students have dedicated significant time to perfecting their craft after school, ensuring a rich cultural presentation that showcases the vibrancy of Mexican traditions.

Empowering Students Through Education, Fitness, and Team Spirit at Roosevelt High School
At Roosevelt High School, students are thriving in various activities. In Study Hall, they complete assignments in a relaxed environment that promotes focus and reduces stress. In the Fitness Gym, tutor Rey helps students improve their workout techniques, many of whom apply these lessons outside school. The Drill Team continues to practice hard, having placed first in their last competition and is determined to keep up their success.
Building Teamwork and Leadership through Basketball
The children at the Salesian Family Youth Center kicked off February with some basketball action! With both girls' and boys' teams, they’re learning essential skills while building teamwork and leadership. It’s inspiring to see the young athletes grow together, supporting each other on and off the court.
Teaching the Importance of Recycling with Athens Services

Frank from Athens Services visited the children at the Salesian Family Youth Center to teach them about the importance of recycling and reducing waste. The kids learned what items belong in the recycling bin versus the trash, discovering many things they didn’t realize could be reused. It was an engaging and fun experience, encouraging them to work together and be more mindful of how they dispose of materials.
Creative Clay Fun with Renee at the Youth Center!
Renee, one of our volunteers who visit the Salesian Family Youth Center, engages children in fun, creative activities. During one of her visits, the children had the opportunity to work with clay, creating their own designs, from animals to houses. The session allowed them to express their creativity and share ideas. Rene's visits are always a hit with the children, fostering a positive and collaborative environment that we look forward to continuing.
